When it comes to elevating a space with timeless texture and elegance, two finishes stand out in high-end design: Venetian plaster and limewash. At Accent Finishes and Design, we specialize in both, offering expertly applied, artisan-quality finishes that turn plain walls into statement surfaces. But what’s the difference—and which is right for your project?

What Is Venetian Plaster?

Venetian plaster is a luxurious wall finish made from slaked lime and marble dust, applied in multiple thin layers and then hand-burnished to create a soft, polished effect. The result is a smooth, almost stone-like surface that reflects light beautifully and adds depth and sophistication to any space.

At Accent Finishes, Venetian plaster is applied by Glenn, our expert artisan, who brings years of experience and an artist’s eye to every application. Whether matte or high-gloss, traditional or contemporary, this finish offers a refined, sculptural quality ideal for accent walls, fireplaces, hallways, and upscale living areas.

What Is Limewash?

Limewash is a more subtle, organic finish made from crushed limestone and natural pigments. It soaks into the surface and creates a soft, cloudy appearance with a velvety texture and beautiful color variation. Limewash has a more matte and rustic appearance compared to Venetian plaster and is a favorite in minimalist, Mediterranean, or earthy interiors.

It’s breathable, eco-friendly, and works especially well in older homes, entryways, or bedrooms where a gentle, layered texture adds warmth and character.

Finish & Durability

  • Venetian Plaster: Smooth to the touch, gently reflective, and extremely durable when sealed properly. It can be polished to a satin or mirror-like finish depending on the look you’re going for.

  • Limewash: Ultra-matte, textured, and breathable. While not as water-resistant as Venetian plaster, it can still be sealed for extra protection.

Both finishes are long-lasting when applied by a skilled professional—but the overall vibe and maintenance needs differ.

Let the Walls Speak for Themselves

At Accent Finishes and Design, these aren’t just coatings—they’re crafted surfaces. Whether you want the sculptural sheen of Venetian plaster or the earthy softness of limewash, we apply each with care, precision, and an obsessive attention to detail. Ready to see what texture can do for your space?
